Watermelon Juice: Refreshing Benefits and Easy Recipes to Try

  • Author: Dottie
  • Total Time: 45 minutes
  • Yield: 4-5 cups 1x

Description

Enjoy a refreshing homemade watermelon juice, perfect for hot days! This simple recipe blends ripe watermelon with optional lime juice and sweeteners for a thirst-quenching drink. Serve chilled over ice and garnish with mint for an extra touch.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 medium-sized ripe watermelon (about 56 pounds)
  • 2 tablespoons of fresh lime juice (optional)
  • 12 tablespoons of honey or agave syrup (optional, adjust to taste)
  • Fresh mint leaves for garnish (optional)
  • Ice cubes (for serving)

Instructions

  1. Choose a ripe watermelon that feels heavy for its size, has a uniform shape, and a smooth skin. A yellow spot indicates it ripened on the ground and is likely sweet.
  2. Rinse the watermelon thoroughly under running water to remove dirt and pesticides.
  3. Place the watermelon on a cutting board and cut it in half lengthwise.
  4. Cut each half into smaller wedges and scoop out the flesh using a spoon or melon baller. You should have about 4-5 cups of watermelon flesh.
  5. Transfer the watermelon flesh into a blender. Blend on high speed for 30 seconds to 1 minute until smooth.
  6. If desired, add lime juice and honey or agave syrup to taste. Blend again for 10-15 seconds to combine.
  7. For a clear juice, strain the mixture through a fine-mesh sieve or cheesecloth into a bowl or pitcher, pressing down to extract as much juice as possible.
  8. Taste the juice and adjust sweetness or acidity if needed. Chill in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes.
  9. Fill glasses with ice cubes and pour the chilled watermelon juice over the ice. Garnish with fresh mint leaves and a slice of watermelon if desired.
  10. Serve immediately and enjoy your refreshing homemade watermelon juice!

Notes

  • Store any leftover juice in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 2-3 days. For longer storage, freeze in ice cube trays.
  • Experiment with adding other fruits like strawberries or pineapple, or use coconut water for a tropical twist. For a spicy kick, add a pinch of cayenne pepper or jalapeño slices.
