Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound ground turkey
- 1/4 cup breadcrumbs (preferably whole wheat)
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1/4 cup finely chopped onion
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional, for heat)
- 1 tablespoon olive oil (for cooking)
- 4 whole wheat burger buns
- 4 slices of cheese (optional, cheddar or Swiss)
- Lettuce, tomato, and any other desired toppings
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, add the ground turkey.
- Sprinkle in the breadcrumbs to help bind the mixture.
- Add the grated Parmesan cheese for flavor and moisture.
- Finely chop the onion and add it to the bowl.
- Mince the garlic cloves and toss them in.
- Pour in the Worcestershire sauce and Dijon mustard.
- Sprinkle in the dried oregano, salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes (if using).
- Using your hands, gently mix everything together until just combined. Avoid overworking the meat.
- Divide the mixture into four equal portions and shape them into patties, making them slightly larger than the buns and creating a small indentation in the center.
- Heat the olive oil in a large skillet or grill pan over medium heat. Preheat the grill to medium-high if using.
- Carefully place the turkey patties in the pan, avoiding overcrowding.
- Cook for about 5-6 minutes on the first side without moving them.
- Flip the burgers using a spatula. If adding cheese, place a slice on each patty and cover the pan with a lid to melt the cheese.
- Continue cooking for another 5-6 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (75°C).
- Remove the burgers from the pan and let them rest for a few minutes.
- While the burgers rest, prepare the burger buns by toasting them lightly.
- Start with the bottom half of the bun and add a layer of lettuce.
- Place the turkey burger on top of the lettuce.
- Add slices of fresh tomato.
- Optionally, add sliced avocado or pickles for extra flavor.
- Spread your favorite condiments on the top half of the bun.
