Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup freshly ground dark roast coffee beans
- 2 cups vodka (good quality, unflavored)
- 3 oz coffee-infused vodka (see above)
- 1 oz coffee liqueur (such as Kahlua or Tia Maria)
- 0.75 oz Irish cream liqueur (such as Baileys)
- 0.5 oz simple syrup (or to taste)
- 1 oz chilled espresso (freshly brewed is best!)
- Ice cubes
- Cocoa powder, for dusting
- 3 coffee beans, for garnish
- Optional: Shaved dark chocolate
- Optional: Ladyfinger cookie crumbs
Instructions
- Grind the coffee beans to a medium-coarse grind.
- Combine ground coffee and vodka in a clean glass jar with a tight-fitting lid. Ensure all grounds are submerged.
- Seal the jar and let it sit at room temperature for 24-48 hours.
- Strain the mixture through a fine-mesh sieve lined with cheesecloth or a coffee filter. Do not press down on the grounds.
- Transfer the coffee-infused vodka to a clean bottle and store in a cool, dark place.
- Chill your martini glass in the freezer for at least 15 minutes.
- Fill a cocktail shaker with ice cubes (about two-thirds full).
- Add coffee-infused vodka, coffee liqueur, Irish cream liqueur, simple syrup, and chilled espresso to the shaker.
- Close the shaker tightly and shake vigorously for 15-20 seconds.
- Double strain the martini into the chilled glass.
- Lightly dust the top of the martini with cocoa powder.
- Place three coffee beans on top of the cocoa powder.
- Optional: Add a few shavings of dark chocolate or sprinkle ladyfinger cookie crumbs around the rim.
Notes
- Use high-quality ingredients for the best flavor.
- Adjust sweetness to taste by adding more or less simple syrup.
- Don’t over-shake the martini, as it can over-dilute it.
- Experiment with flavors by adding vanilla extract or chocolate bitters.
- The coffee infusion can be made ahead of time and stored in the refrigerator.
- For a salty-sweet twist, try rimming the glass with a mixture of cocoa powder and sea salt.
- For a vegan option, substitute the Irish cream liqueur with a vegan alternative made from almond or coconut milk. Ensure your coffee liqueur is also vegan-friendly.
