Description
A refreshing twist on the classic mojito, bursting with fresh strawberry flavor. This easy-to-make cocktail is perfect for summer gatherings or a relaxing evening at home.
Ingredients
Scale
- 6–8 fresh mint leaves
- 1/2 lime, cut into wedges
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar (or simple syrup to taste)
- 6–8 fresh strawberries, hulled and quartered
- 2 ounces white rum
- Ice cubes
- Club soda, to top
- Strawberry slices and mint sprigs, for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Place the mint leaves, lime wedges, and sugar (or simple syrup) into a sturdy glass (highball recommended).
- Using a muddler (or the back of a wooden spoon), gently press and twist the ingredients together to release the oils from the mint and juice from the lime. Aim for about 10-12 gentle presses and twists. Be careful not to shred the mint leaves.
- Add the quartered strawberries to the glass.
- Gently muddle the strawberries, pressing down to release their juice. You want to break them down a bit, but not completely puree them. A few chunks are perfectly fine!
- Pour the white rum into the glass over the muddled ingredients.
- Fill the glass almost to the top with ice cubes. Crushed ice is recommended.
- Top the glass with club soda, leaving about an inch of space at the top.
- Using a long spoon, gently stir the mojito to combine all the ingredients. Be sure to lift the muddled ingredients from the bottom of the glass to ensure everything is evenly mixed.
- Taste the mojito and adjust the sweetness as needed. If it’s not sweet enough, add a little more sugar or simple syrup. If it’s too sweet, add a squeeze of lime juice.
- Garnish with a few strawberry slices and a sprig of fresh mint. You can also add a lime wedge to the rim of the glass for an extra touch.
- Serve immediately and enjoy!
Notes
- Simple Syrup: Can be used instead of granulated sugar. Combine equal parts water and sugar in a saucepan over medium heat. Stir until the sugar is dissolved. Let cool completely before using.
- Sweetener Alternatives: Agave nectar or honey can be used in place of sugar or simple syrup.
- Different Fruits: Experiment with other fruits in your mojito. Raspberries, blueberries, or even pineapple would be delicious additions.
- Spicy Mojito: For a little kick, add a slice of jalapeño to the glass when muddling the ingredients.
- Virgin Mojito: To make a non-alcoholic version, simply omit the rum and add a splash of lime juice or a little more club soda.
- Frozen Mojito: Blend all the ingredients with ice for a refreshing frozen mojito.
- Infused Rum: Use a strawberry-infused rum for an extra burst of strawberry flavor.
- Mint Variations: While spearmint is the classic choice for mojitos, you can also experiment with other types of mint, such as peppermint or chocolate mint.
- Sparkling Wine: For a celebratory twist, top your mojito with a splash of sparkling wine or Prosecco instead of club soda.
