Description
Flaky, golden-brown puff pastry filled with Nutella. Easy to make, perfect for breakfast, brunch, or a sweet treat!
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 sheets of ready-made puff pastry, thawed
- 1 cup Nutella (or more, to taste!)
- 1 large egg, beaten (for egg wash)
- 2 tablespoons milk or cream (optional, for egg wash)
- Powdered sugar, for dusting (optional)
- Chopped hazelnuts or other nuts, for topping (optional)
- Chocolate shavings, for topping (optional)
Instructions
- Prepare your workspace: Lightly flour a clean, flat surface.
- Unfold the puff pastry: Gently unfold one sheet of thawed puff pastry onto the floured surface.
- Spread the Nutella: Evenly spread the Nutella over the entire surface of the puff pastry, leaving a small (about ½ inch) border around the edges.
- Layer the Pastry: Carefully place the second sheet of puff pastry on top of the Nutella-covered sheet, aligning the edges as closely as possible.
- Seal the Edges: Gently press down along the edges of the pastry with your fingers or a fork to seal them.
- Choose your shape: Decide how to shape your Nutella puff pastry. Options include twists, pinwheels, squares/rectangles, or a braided pastry.
- Cut the Pastry: Using a sharp knife or pizza cutter, carefully cut the pastry into your desired shape.
- Arrange on Baking Sheet: Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Gently place the cut pastries onto the prepared baking sheet, leaving a little space between each one.
- Prepare the Egg Wash: In a small bowl, whisk together the beaten egg and milk or cream (if using).
- Apply the Egg Wash: Using a pastry brush, gently brush the tops of the pastries with the egg wash.
- Add Toppings (Optional): If desired, sprinkle the pastries with chopped hazelnuts, chocolate shavings, or any other toppings you like.
- Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Bake the Pastries: Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the pastries are golden brown and puffed up.
- Check for Doneness: The pastries are done when they are a deep golden brown color and the puff pastry is fully cooked through.
- Cool on a Wire Rack: Once the pastries are baked, remove them from the oven and transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Dust with Powdered Sugar (Optional): Once the pastries are cooled, you can dust them with powdered sugar for a beautiful finishing touch.
- Serve and Enjoy: Serve the Nutella puff pastries warm or at room temperature.
- Storage: Store any leftover pastries in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days.
Notes
- Use cold puff pastry for best results.
- Don’t overfill the pastries with Nutella.
- Seal the edges well to prevent leakage.
- Bake at the right temperature and avoid opening the oven door too often.
- Experiment with different flavors and toppings.
