Nutella Puff Pastry: Easy Recipe & Baking Tips

  • Total Time: 30 minutes
  • Yield: 12-24 pastries 1x

Description

Flaky, golden-brown puff pastry filled with Nutella. Easy to make, perfect for breakfast, brunch, or a sweet treat!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 sheets of ready-made puff pastry, thawed
  • 1 cup Nutella (or more, to taste!)
  • 1 large egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • 2 tablespoons milk or cream (optional, for egg wash)
  • Powdered sugar, for dusting (optional)
  • Chopped hazelnuts or other nuts, for topping (optional)
  • Chocolate shavings, for topping (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare your workspace: Lightly flour a clean, flat surface.
  2. Unfold the puff pastry: Gently unfold one sheet of thawed puff pastry onto the floured surface.
  3. Spread the Nutella: Evenly spread the Nutella over the entire surface of the puff pastry, leaving a small (about ½ inch) border around the edges.
  4. Layer the Pastry: Carefully place the second sheet of puff pastry on top of the Nutella-covered sheet, aligning the edges as closely as possible.
  5. Seal the Edges: Gently press down along the edges of the pastry with your fingers or a fork to seal them.
  6. Choose your shape: Decide how to shape your Nutella puff pastry. Options include twists, pinwheels, squares/rectangles, or a braided pastry.
  7. Cut the Pastry: Using a sharp knife or pizza cutter, carefully cut the pastry into your desired shape.
  8. Arrange on Baking Sheet: Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Gently place the cut pastries onto the prepared baking sheet, leaving a little space between each one.
  9. Prepare the Egg Wash: In a small bowl, whisk together the beaten egg and milk or cream (if using).
  10. Apply the Egg Wash: Using a pastry brush, gently brush the tops of the pastries with the egg wash.
  11. Add Toppings (Optional): If desired, sprinkle the pastries with chopped hazelnuts, chocolate shavings, or any other toppings you like.
  12. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  13. Bake the Pastries: Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the pastries are golden brown and puffed up.
  14. Check for Doneness: The pastries are done when they are a deep golden brown color and the puff pastry is fully cooked through.
  15. Cool on a Wire Rack: Once the pastries are baked, remove them from the oven and transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.
  16. Dust with Powdered Sugar (Optional): Once the pastries are cooled, you can dust them with powdered sugar for a beautiful finishing touch.
  17. Serve and Enjoy: Serve the Nutella puff pastries warm or at room temperature.
  18. Storage: Store any leftover pastries in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days.

Notes

  • Use cold puff pastry for best results.
  • Don’t overfill the pastries with Nutella.
  • Seal the edges well to prevent leakage.
  • Bake at the right temperature and avoid opening the oven door too often.
  • Experiment with different flavors and toppings.
