  • Yield: 1 serving 1x

Description

Refreshing homemade coffee drink with smooth cold brew, rich mint chocolate syrup, milk, and optional whipped cream.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup coarsely ground coffee (dark roast preferred)
  • 4 cups cold, filtered water
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar (or preferred sweetener, adjust to taste)
  • 1/4 teaspoon peppermint extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups milk (dairy or non-dairy)
  • Whipped cream (optional, for topping)
  • Chocolate shavings or chocolate syrup (optional, for garnish)
  • Fresh mint sprigs (optional, for garnish)
  • Ice cubes

Instructions

  1. In a large pitcher, combine coarsely ground coffee and cold, filtered water. Stir well to submerge all grounds.
  2. Cover and refrigerate for 12-24 hours (ideally 18-24 hours).
  3. Strain using cheesecloth, a coffee filter, or a French press to remove grounds. Discard grounds.
  4. Transfer concentrate to an airtight container and refrigerate for up to two weeks.
  5. In a medium saucepan, combine cocoa powder, sugar, peppermint extract, and salt.
  6. Add 1 cup of water to the saucepan.
  7. Place over medium heat, stirring constantly until sugar is dissolved and cocoa powder is incorporated.
  8. Bring to a simmer, then reduce heat to low and simmer for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until slightly thickened.
  9. Remove from heat and let cool completely.
  10. Transfer to an airtight container and refrigerate for up to two weeks.
  11. Fill a tall glass with ice cubes.
  12. Pour about 1/2 cup of cold brew concentrate over the ice. Adjust to taste.
  13. Add 2-3 tablespoons of mint chocolate syrup to the glass. Adjust to taste.
  14. Pour about 1 cup of milk into the glass, leaving room for topping.
  15. Stir to combine all ingredients.
  16. Add a dollop of whipped cream.
  17. Garnish with chocolate shavings/syrup and a mint sprig.
  18. Enjoy!

Notes

  • Adjust sweetness and mintiness to your preference.
  • For a stronger coffee, use more concentrate or steep longer.
  • For a weaker coffee, use less concentrate or dilute with more milk.
  • Experiment with different extracts and spices for unique flavors.
  • Make it vegan by using non-dairy milk and vegan whipped cream.
