Microwave Bacon Cooking Tips: Perfectly Crispy Every Time

  • Author: Dottie
  • Total Time: 11-13 minutes
  • Yield: 4-6 slices 1x

Description

Microwaving bacon is a fast and easy way to enjoy crispy slices without the mess. In just a few minutes, you can have delicious bacon ready to complement any meal, making it a perfect addition to breakfast or snacks.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 46 slices of bacon
  • Paper towels (about 3-4 sheets)
  • A microwave-safe plate
  • Optional: A microwave-safe bacon tray

Instructions

  1. Choose Your Bacon: Select your favorite type of bacon. Thick-cut bacon is juicier, while thin-cut cooks faster.
  2. Prepare Your Workspace: Clear a space on your kitchen counter or table for your microwave and plate.
  3. Layer the Paper Towels: Lay 2-3 sheets of paper towels flat on your microwave-safe plate to absorb grease and prevent splatters.
  4. Arrange the Bacon: Lay the bacon slices on top of the paper towels in a single layer, ensuring they do not overlap.
  5. Cover the Bacon: Place another paper towel over the bacon to catch any grease splatters.
  6. Set the Microwave: Close the microwave door and set the timer. For thin-cut bacon, start with 4-5 minutes; for thick-cut, start with 6-8 minutes.
  7. Check for Doneness: After the timer goes off, carefully check the bacon. If it’s not crispy enough, continue cooking in 30-second intervals until desired crispiness is reached.
  8. Remove the Bacon: Use tongs to transfer the cooked bacon to a plate lined with fresh paper towels to absorb excess grease.
  9. Dispose of the Grease: Allow the grease on the paper towels to cool, then fold and dispose of them in the trash.
  10. Wipe Down the Microwave: Clean any splatters inside the microwave with a damp cloth or paper towel.
  11. Enjoy Your Bacon: Serve alongside scrambled eggs, in a breakfast sandwich, or crumbled over a salad.
  12. Storing Leftovers: If you have leftover bacon, let it cool, then store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 3-4 days. Reheat in the microwave as needed.

Notes

  • Using a microwave bacon tray can help achieve crispier bacon by allowing grease to drip away.
  • Cooking times may vary based on your microwave, so adjust as necessary.
  • For added flavor, consider sprinkling brown sugar, black pepper, or hot sauce on the bacon before cooking.
  • Cooking in smaller batches ensures even cooking and prevents overcrowding.
