  • Total Time: 135 minutes
  • Yield: 6-8 servings 1x

Description

Refreshing Mexican Melon Water (Agua de Melon) with watermelon, cantaloupe, lime, and honey. Perfect for hot days!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 cups cubed watermelon, seedless preferred
  • 4 cups cubed cantaloupe
  • 2 cups water, plus more to adjust consistency
  • 1/4 cup lime juice, freshly squeezed (about 23 limes)
  • 2 tablespoons honey or agave nectar, or to taste (optional)
  • Pinch of salt
  • Fresh mint sprigs, for garnish (optional)
  • Lime wedges, for garnish (optional)
  • Ice cubes, for serving

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Melons: Wash watermelon and cantaloupe. Cut in half, remove seeds, and cube into roughly 1-inch pieces.
  2. Blend: Add cubed watermelon and cantaloupe to a blender (in batches if needed).
  3. Add Liquids: Pour in 2 cups of water and 1/4 cup of fresh lime juice.
  4. Sweeten (Optional): Add 2 tablespoons of honey or agave nectar, or to taste.
  5. Add Salt: Add a pinch of salt.
  6. Blend Until Smooth: Secure the lid and blend on high speed until completely smooth (1-2 minutes). Scrape down sides if needed.
  7. Adjust Sweetness and Tartness: Taste and add more honey/agave for sweetness or lime juice for tartness.
  8. Adjust Consistency: If too thick, add more water, a tablespoon at a time, until desired consistency is reached.
  9. Strain (Optional): For a smoother texture, strain through a fine-mesh sieve or cheesecloth.
  10. Chill: Pour into a pitcher and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or until cold.
  11. Serve: Stir well before serving. Fill glasses with ice, pour melon water over ice.
  12. Garnish (Optional): Garnish with fresh mint sprigs and lime wedges.

Notes

  • Melon Variations: Use honeydew, crenshaw, or other melons.
  • Fruit Additions: Add strawberries, raspberries, or pineapple for extra flavor.
  • Spicy Kick: Add a pinch of chili powder or a small piece of jalapeño.
  • Herb Infusion: Add basil or cilantro leaves to the blender.
  • Boozy Version: Add a shot of tequila or vodka to each glass.
  • Frozen Treat: Pour into popsicle molds and freeze.
  • Sparkling: Top with sparkling water or club soda.
  • Make Ahead: Can be made up to 24 hours in advance. Stir well before serving.
  • Don’t Overblend: Blend just until smooth to avoid a foamy texture.
