Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 tablespoons matcha green tea powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup white chocolate chips (optional)
- 1/2 cup chopped nuts (like macadamia or walnuts, optional)
Instructions
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, matcha powder, baking soda, and salt. Ensure there are no lumps in the matcha powder for even color and flavor.
- In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar using an electric mixer on medium speed until light and fluffy (about 2-3 minutes).
- Add the egg and vanilla extract to the butter-sugar mixture and beat until well combined, resulting in a smooth and creamy mixture.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing on low speed until just combined. Avoid overmixing to prevent tough cookies.
- If using, fold in the white chocolate chips and/or nuts with a spatula for added texture and flavor.
- Cover the mixing bowl with plastic wrap or transfer the dough to an airtight container.
- Refrigerate the dough for at least 30 minutes to help the flavors meld and make it easier to handle.
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) for even baking.
- Line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and ease cleanup.
- Once chilled, scoop out portions of dough using a cookie scoop or tablespoon, rolling them into balls. Place them on the prepared baking sheet, leaving about 2 inches of space between each cookie.
- Gently flatten each cookie ball with your palm to help them spread evenly while baking.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden. The centers may appear slightly underbaked but will continue to cook on the baking sheet.
- Remove the cookies from the oven and let them cool on the baking sheet for about 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Once completely cooled, store the cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week.
- For longer storage, freeze the cookies in a single layer in a freezer-safe container, separated by parchment paper, for up to 3 months.
- To enjoy frozen cookies, let them thaw at room temperature.
Notes
- Ensure the matcha powder is high quality for the best flavor and color.
- Feel free to customize the cookies by adding your favorite mix-ins like dried fruits or different types of chocolate.
