  • Author: Dottie
  • Total Time: 60 minutes
  • Yield: 24 cookies 1x

Description

Enjoy the delightful fusion of flavors with these soft and chewy Matcha Cookies, infused with earthy matcha green tea. Optional white chocolate chips and nuts add a delightful crunch, making each bite a heavenly treat for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons matcha green tea powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup white chocolate chips (optional)
  • 1/2 cup chopped nuts (like macadamia or walnuts, optional)

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, matcha powder, baking soda, and salt. Ensure there are no lumps in the matcha powder for even color and flavor.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar using an electric mixer on medium speed until light and fluffy (about 2-3 minutes).
  3. Add the egg and vanilla extract to the butter-sugar mixture and beat until well combined, resulting in a smooth and creamy mixture.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing on low speed until just combined. Avoid overmixing to prevent tough cookies.
  5. If using, fold in the white chocolate chips and/or nuts with a spatula for added texture and flavor.
  6. Cover the mixing bowl with plastic wrap or transfer the dough to an airtight container.
  7. Refrigerate the dough for at least 30 minutes to help the flavors meld and make it easier to handle.
  8. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) for even baking.
  9. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and ease cleanup.
  10. Once chilled, scoop out portions of dough using a cookie scoop or tablespoon, rolling them into balls. Place them on the prepared baking sheet, leaving about 2 inches of space between each cookie.
  11. Gently flatten each cookie ball with your palm to help them spread evenly while baking.
  12. Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden. The centers may appear slightly underbaked but will continue to cook on the baking sheet.
  13. Remove the cookies from the oven and let them cool on the baking sheet for about 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
  14. Once completely cooled, store the cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week.
  15. For longer storage, freeze the cookies in a single layer in a freezer-safe container, separated by parchment paper, for up to 3 months.
  16. To enjoy frozen cookies, let them thaw at room temperature.

Notes

  • Ensure the matcha powder is high quality for the best flavor and color.
