- 200g spaghetti
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 medium onion, finely chopped
- 1 bell pepper (red or green), sliced
- 100g button mushrooms, sliced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 200g canned diced tomatoes
- 2 tablespoons tomato ketchup
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon soy sauce
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Fresh basil leaves for garnish
- Grated Parmesan cheese (optional)
Instructions
- Fill a large pot with water and bring it to a rolling boil. Add a generous pinch of salt.
- Add the spaghetti to the boiling water and cook according to package instructions (8-10 minutes) until al dente. Stir occasionally.
- Drain the spaghetti in a colander and toss with a little olive oil to prevent sticking.
- In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat.
- Add the chopped onion and sauté for 3-4 minutes until translucent.
- Add the sliced bell pepper and mushrooms, cooking for another 5-7 minutes until tender.
- Add the minced garlic and sauté for 1-2 minutes, being careful not to burn it.
- Pour in the canned diced tomatoes and stir. Let simmer for about 5 minutes.
- Add tomato ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, and soy sauce. Stir and let simmer for another 5-10 minutes, adding water if needed.
- Taste and season with salt and pepper as needed.
- Add the drained spaghetti to the skillet and toss to coat.
- Cook together for another 2-3 minutes over low heat.
- Twirl the spaghetti onto plates or into bowls.
- Top with fresh basil leaves and grated Parmesan cheese if desired.
- Serve immediately while hot.
