Hawaiian Mai Tai Cocktail: Your Ultimate Guide to Paradise in a Glass

  • Total Time: 5 minutes
  • Yield: 1 serving 1x

Description

A classic tropical cocktail with rums, orange curaçao, orgeat syrup, and lime juice. Garnish with pineapple and a cherry.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 ounce light rum
  • 1 ounce dark rum
  • 1 ounce orange curaçao
  • ½ ounce orgeat syrup
  • ¾ ounce fresh lime juice
  • Pineapple wedge, for garnish
  • Maraschino cherry, for garnish
  • Optional: A splash of grenadine for color
  • Ice cubes

Instructions

  1. Chill Your Glass: Chill a double old-fashioned glass or tiki mug in the freezer for a few minutes. Alternatively, fill with ice and discard before pouring.
  2. Combine Rums: In a cocktail shaker, combine light and dark rum.
  3. Add Curaçao: Add orange curaçao to the shaker.
  4. Incorporate Orgeat: Add orgeat syrup to the shaker.
  5. Squeeze Lime Juice: Add freshly squeezed lime juice to the shaker. Strain the lime juice to remove any pulp or seeds.
  6. Add Ice: Fill the shaker with ice cubes.
  7. Shake Vigorously: Seal and shake vigorously for 15-20 seconds.
  8. Strain: Fill the chilled glass with ice. Strain the contents of the shaker into the glass over the ice.
  9. Garnish: Garnish with a pineapple wedge and a maraschino cherry.
  10. Optional Grenadine: Add a splash of grenadine for color, if desired.

Notes

  • Rum Selection: Experiment with different light and dark rums for your preferred flavor. Jamaican rum adds a nice kick.
  • Orgeat Alternative: Amaretto can be substituted, but use less due to its stronger flavor.
  • Sweetness Adjustment: Adjust orgeat syrup or lime juice to taste.
  • Mocktail: Replace rum with pineapple or orange juice and use a non-alcoholic orange curaçao alternative.
  • Batching: Multiply ingredients for a crowd and store in the refrigerator until serving.
  • Presentation: Garnish with pineapple, cherry, and mint for a visually appealing drink.
  • Ice Quality: Use clear, hard ice to prevent dilution.
  • Don’t Over-Shake: Avoid over-shaking to prevent excessive dilution.
  • Fresh Ingredients: Use fresh lime juice and high-quality rum for the best flavor.
  • Garnish Variations: Experiment with orange slices, lime wheels, or paper umbrellas.
  • Adjust to Taste: Customize the ingredient amounts to suit your preferences.
  • Enjoy Responsibly: Drink plenty of water and avoid drinking on an empty stomach.
