Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup of brewed espresso or strong coffee
- 1 cup of milk (whole, almond, or oat milk)
- 1/2 cup of eggnog (store-bought or homemade)
- 1 tablespoon of sugar (optional, adjust to taste)
- 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract
- 1/4 teaspoon of ground nutmeg
- 1/4 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
- Whipped cream (for topping)
- Additional ground nutmeg or cinnamon (for garnish)
Instructions
- Measure out 1/2 cup of coffee beans or ground coffee. If using whole beans, grind them to a fine consistency.
- For espresso, use about 18-20 grams of coffee for a double shot. If using a French press, add the coffee grounds to the press.
- Boil water to about 200°F (just off the boil) and pour it over the coffee grounds. If using a French press, let it steep for about 4 minutes before pressing down the plunger.
- If using an espresso machine, brew your espresso shots according to the machines instructions.
- Once brewed, set the coffee aside.
- In a small saucepan, combine 1 cup of milk and 1/2 cup of eggnog.
- Place the saucepan over medium heat and stir gently to combine.
- Heat until warm but not boiling, stirring occasionally to prevent scorching.
- Remove from heat and add sugar (if using), vanilla extract, nutmeg, and cinnamon. Stir well.
- If you have a milk frother, froth the warm milk and eggnog mixture until foamy.
- If not, whisk vigorously in the saucepan until frothy, or shake in a sealed jar until foamy.
- Pour the brewed espresso or strong coffee into a coffee mug.
- Slowly pour the warm milk and eggnog mixture over the coffee.
- Spoon the frothy milk on top.
- Top with whipped cream and sprinkle with ground nutmeg or cinnamon for garnish.
Notes
- Adjust the sweetness by adding more or less sugar according to your taste.
- For a non-dairy version, use almond or oat milk and ensure the eggnog is dairy-free.
- Frothing the milk is optional but adds a delightful texture to the latte.
