Indulge in a delightful twist on breakfast with Crème Brûlée French Toast, featuring rich brioche bread soaked in a creamy custard and topped with a perfectly caramelized sugar crust. Ideal for brunch or a special morning treat!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 loaf of brioche bread (about 1 pound), sliced into 1-inch thick slices
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar (for topping)
  • Fresh berries (for garnish, optional)
  • Powdered sugar (for dusting, optional)

Instructions

  1. Gather all your ingredients on the counter.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, crack the 4 large eggs and beat them until well combined and slightly frothy.
  3. Pour in 1 cup of heavy cream and 1 cup of whole milk into the bowl with the eggs and whisk until smooth and creamy.
  4. Add 1 cup of granulated sugar, 1 tablespoon of vanilla extract, 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon, and 1/4 teaspoon of salt to the egg mixture and whisk until the sugar is fully dissolved.
  5. Slice the brioche bread into 1-inch thick slices if not already done.
  6. In a large baking dish, arrange the slices of brioche bread in a single layer.
  7. Carefully pour the egg and cream mixture over the arranged bread slices, ensuring each slice is well coated.
  8. Cover the baking dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, or preferably overnight.
  9. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  10. Remove the baking dish from the refrigerator and let it sit at room temperature for about 15 minutes if soaked overnight.
  11. Evenly sprinkle 1/2 cup of brown sugar over the top of the soaked bread.
  12. Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for about 30-35 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the custard is set.
  13. For an extra crispy top, switch your oven to broil for the last 2-3 minutes of baking, keeping a close eye to prevent burning.
  14. Once out of the oven, let the French toast cool for about 5-10 minutes.
  15. Cut the French toast into squares or rectangles.
  16. Garnish with fresh berries and a dusting of powdered sugar if desired.
  17. Serve your crème brûlée French toast warm and enjoy!
