Ingredients
Scale
- 1 loaf of brioche bread (about 1 pound), sliced into 1-inch thick slices
- 4 large eggs
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 cup whole milk
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup brown sugar (for topping)
- Fresh berries (for garnish, optional)
- Powdered sugar (for dusting, optional)
Instructions
- Gather all your ingredients on the counter.
- In a large mixing bowl, crack the 4 large eggs and beat them until well combined and slightly frothy.
- Pour in 1 cup of heavy cream and 1 cup of whole milk into the bowl with the eggs and whisk until smooth and creamy.
- Add 1 cup of granulated sugar, 1 tablespoon of vanilla extract, 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon, and 1/4 teaspoon of salt to the egg mixture and whisk until the sugar is fully dissolved.
- Slice the brioche bread into 1-inch thick slices if not already done.
- In a large baking dish, arrange the slices of brioche bread in a single layer.
- Carefully pour the egg and cream mixture over the arranged bread slices, ensuring each slice is well coated.
- Cover the baking dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, or preferably overnight.
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Remove the baking dish from the refrigerator and let it sit at room temperature for about 15 minutes if soaked overnight.
- Evenly sprinkle 1/2 cup of brown sugar over the top of the soaked bread.
- Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for about 30-35 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the custard is set.
- For an extra crispy top, switch your oven to broil for the last 2-3 minutes of baking, keeping a close eye to prevent burning.
- Once out of the oven, let the French toast cool for about 5-10 minutes.
- Cut the French toast into squares or rectangles.
- Garnish with fresh berries and a dusting of powdered sugar if desired.
- Serve your crème brûlée French toast warm and enjoy!
Notes
- For best results, soak the bread overnight to allow maximum flavor absorption.
- Feel free to customize with your favorite toppings, such as maple syrup or whipped cream.
