  • Author: Dottie
  • Total Time: 20 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Description

Start your day with a warm and creamy bowl of steel cut oats made in the Instant Pot. This nutritious breakfast is easily customizable with your favorite toppings, providing a delicious and wholesome way to fuel your morning.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup steel cut oats
  • 4 cups water
  • 1 cup milk (dairy or non-dairy, such as almond or oat milk)
  • 2 tablespoons maple syrup (or honey, to taste)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon (optional)
  • Fresh fruit for topping (such as bananas, berries, or apples)
  • Chopped nuts or seeds for topping (such as walnuts, almonds, or chia seeds)
  • Additional sweetener, if desired

Instructions

  1. Measure out 1 cup of steel cut oats and rinse them under cold water in a fine-mesh strainer until the water runs clear (optional).
  2. Add the rinsed oats to the Instant Pot.
  3. Pour in 4 cups of water and 1 cup of milk.
  4. Stir in 2 tablespoons of maple syrup (or honey), 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract, and 1/2 teaspoon of salt.
  5. If desired, add 1 teaspoon of cinnamon for extra flavor.
  6. Close the lid of the Instant Pot and set the valve to sealing.
  7. Select the “Manual” or “Pressure Cook” setting and set the timer for 10 minutes on high pressure.
  8. Once cooking is complete, allow the Instant Pot to naturally release pressure for about 10 minutes, then carefully switch the valve to venting to release any remaining pressure.
  9. Open the lid and stir the oats. If you prefer a thicker consistency, let them sit for a few minutes with the lid on.
  10. Scoop the creamy oats into bowls and top with fresh fruits, chopped nuts or seeds, and additional sweetener if desired.
  11. For extra creaminess, add a dollop of yogurt or a splash of additional milk.

Notes

  • Customize your oats with seasonal fruits or different spices.
  • Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days. Reheat with a splash of milk or water.
