Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups cooked jasmine rice
- 8 oz beef steak (sirloin or ribeye), thinly sliced
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil (for frying)
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 small onion, diced
- 1 cup mixed vegetables (carrots, peas, and corn)
- 2 large eggs
- 3 green onions, chopped
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Optional: chili flakes or hot sauce for heat
Instructions
- Start by marinating the beef. In a medium bowl, combine the thinly sliced beef with 1 tablespoon of soy sauce, 1 teaspoon of sesame oil, and a pinch of black pepper. Mix well to ensure the beef is evenly coated. Let it marinate for at least 15 minutes while you prepare the other ingredients.
- After marinating, heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Once the oil is hot, add the marinated beef in a single layer. Avoid overcrowding the pan; you may need to do this in batches.
- Cook the beef for about 2-3 minutes on each side until browned and cooked through. Remove the beef from the skillet and set it aside on a plate. Make sure to leave the juices in the pan for added flavor.
- In the same skillet, add another tablespoon of vegetable oil if needed. Add the diced onion and sauté for about 2 minutes until it becomes translucent.
- Add the minced garlic and cook for an additional 30 seconds, stirring constantly to prevent burning.
- Next, add the mixed vegetables to the skillet. Stir-fry for about 3-4 minutes until they are tender but still crisp. Season with a pinch of salt and pepper.
- Once the vegetables are cooked, push them to one side of the skillet. If necessary, add a little more oil to the empty side of the skillet.
- Crack the two eggs into the skillet and scramble them gently, mixing them with the vegetables as they cook. Cook until the eggs are fully set, about 1-2 minutes.
- Now, add the cooked jasmine rice to the skillet. Break up any clumps with a spatula and mix everything together thoroughly.
- Pour in the remaining tablespoon of soy sauce, oyster sauce, and sesame oil over the rice. Stir well to ensure the rice is evenly coated with the sauces.
- Return the cooked beef to the skillet, mixing it into the rice and vegetable mixture. Stir-fry everything together for another 2-3 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.
- Check the seasoning and adjust with more salt, pepper, or soy sauce if needed. If you like a bit of heat, sprinkle in some chili flakes or drizzle with hot sauce at this stage.
- Finally, add the chopped green onions and give everything a final stir. Cook for an additional minute to warm the green onions through.
- Once everything is well combined and heated through, remove the skillet from the heat.
- Serve the beef steak fried rice hot, garnished with additional green onions or sesame seeds if desired.
- Enjoy your delicious homemade beef steak fried rice as a main dish or as a side to complement your favorite Asian-inspired meals!
Notes
- Using day-old rice is key to achieving the perfect texture. Freshly cooked rice can be too sticky and clump together.
- Feel free to customize the vegetables based on your preference or what you have on hand. Bell peppers, broccoli, or snap peas can be great additions.
- For a vegetarian version, substitute the beef with tofu or additional vegetables.
