Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups cooked jasmine rice
  • 8 oz beef steak (sirloin or ribeye), thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil (for frying)
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 1 cup mixed vegetables (carrots, peas, and corn)
  • 2 large eggs
  • 3 green onions, chopped
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Optional: chili flakes or hot sauce for heat

Instructions

  1. Start by marinating the beef. In a medium bowl, combine the thinly sliced beef with 1 tablespoon of soy sauce, 1 teaspoon of sesame oil, and a pinch of black pepper. Mix well to ensure the beef is evenly coated. Let it marinate for at least 15 minutes while you prepare the other ingredients.
  2. After marinating, heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Once the oil is hot, add the marinated beef in a single layer. Avoid overcrowding the pan; you may need to do this in batches.
  3. Cook the beef for about 2-3 minutes on each side until browned and cooked through. Remove the beef from the skillet and set it aside on a plate. Make sure to leave the juices in the pan for added flavor.
  4. In the same skillet, add another tablespoon of vegetable oil if needed. Add the diced onion and sauté for about 2 minutes until it becomes translucent.
  5. Add the minced garlic and cook for an additional 30 seconds, stirring constantly to prevent burning.
  6. Next, add the mixed vegetables to the skillet. Stir-fry for about 3-4 minutes until they are tender but still crisp. Season with a pinch of salt and pepper.
  7. Once the vegetables are cooked, push them to one side of the skillet. If necessary, add a little more oil to the empty side of the skillet.
  8. Crack the two eggs into the skillet and scramble them gently, mixing them with the vegetables as they cook. Cook until the eggs are fully set, about 1-2 minutes.
  9. Now, add the cooked jasmine rice to the skillet. Break up any clumps with a spatula and mix everything together thoroughly.
  10. Pour in the remaining tablespoon of soy sauce, oyster sauce, and sesame oil over the rice. Stir well to ensure the rice is evenly coated with the sauces.
  11. Return the cooked beef to the skillet, mixing it into the rice and vegetable mixture. Stir-fry everything together for another 2-3 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.
  12. Check the seasoning and adjust with more salt, pepper, or soy sauce if needed. If you like a bit of heat, sprinkle in some chili flakes or drizzle with hot sauce at this stage.
  13. Finally, add the chopped green onions and give everything a final stir. Cook for an additional minute to warm the green onions through.
  14. Once everything is well combined and heated through, remove the skillet from the heat.
  15. Serve the beef steak fried rice hot, garnished with additional green onions or sesame seeds if desired.
  16. Enjoy your delicious homemade beef steak fried rice as a main dish or as a side to complement your favorite Asian-inspired meals!

Notes

  • Using day-old rice is key to achieving the perfect texture. Freshly cooked rice can be too sticky and clump together.
  • Feel free to customize the vegetables based on your preference or what you have on hand. Bell peppers, broccoli, or snap peas can be great additions.
  • For a vegetarian version, substitute the beef with tofu or additional vegetables.
